A Business Studies ‘A’ level will give you a thorough grounding in the skills required for today’s rapidly changing business world. Employers are always keen to employ individuals with a good understanding of business and this course will provide you with exactly that. You’ll gain skills in all aspects of running a business and we even cover the skills required to start your own.
This course will be examined for the last time in 2016. If you are interested in studying for an examination date beyond this, look at our brand new Business A level for examinations in 2017 and beyond.
The Business Studies A level course includes two major components – AS level and A2 level. The AS level is a qualification in its own right and may be studied for on a one-year course.
Each lesson begins with a set of clearly stated objectives and an explanation of its place in the overall programme of study. Effective learning is encouraged through frequent activities and self-assessment questions.
The course includes fifteen Tutor-marked Assignments (known as TMAs), seven in the AS course and eight in the A2.
The course is broken into four modules, to match the new AQA 2130 specification, with examinations in 2013 or later years. The AQA units and the modules in our course have the following titles:

Business Studies A2 level
- Strategies for Success
- The Business Environment and Managing Change
The AS course prepares candidates for the AQA Business Studies AS level syllabus 1131. Most candidates will then study the Business Studies A2 syllabus 2131. The full Business Studies A level qualification comprises AS and A2. We have chosen this syllabus as it is the one best suited to distance learning.
Assessment is by four written exam papers, two at AS level and two at A2 level. There is no coursework.
Students will normally require 4 GCSEs and above to start a Business Studies A level. It would be advantageous to the student if this included English GCSE and Maths GCSE. It is not necessary to have studied Business Studies GCSE although again this would be advantageous.
