All Oxford Open Learning tutors are fully qualified teachers holding either a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or a degree in education. So when you enrol on an Oxford Open Learning course you can be assured of the assistance of a professionally qualified subject-specific tutor.
Tutors are also required to have extensive experience of teaching the subject to the same level (or higher) as the one you are enrolled at. In addition, each tutor is individually trained by OOL in the specific skills and procedures that are required for successful distance learning.
OOL is always looking for the very best tutors, and we recruit, on average, only one in every ten applicants for tutorial posts.
All Oxford Open Learning courses include tutor-marked assignments (TMAs). Your tutor will mark these assignments and give you specific help based on your answers. In addition, once your work has been marked Oxford Open Learning will also send you a set of suggested answers to help you see where your strengths and weaknesses lie.
All Oxford Open Learning tutors have a freephone telephone number (0800). This means that if you are in the UK when you phone your tutor, you won’t pay the cost of the call. Whilst you are still actively submitting assignments, you should expect to be in contact with your tutor regularly. Remember, to get the most out of your tutor, you will need to tell them when you need assistance.
