Sociology A level – a brief introduction

This brand new Sociology A level course has been written to match the AQA specification 7192. This specification was examined for the first time in Summer 2017.  For a full overview of our the changes to our A level courses please see the A level Changes page.

The Sociology course has been designed so that students can follow two core themes through their study. The themes are socialisation, culture and identity, social differentiation, power and stratification.

These themes are not discrete topics but will be interpreted through the study of the modules below.

AS Level Sociology Topics

A level Sociology Topics

  • Crime and Deviance
  • Theory and Methods
  • Beliefs in Society

The course is written to match the AQA Sociology AS/A level specification 7191/7192.


  • The AS level is assessed by two one hour thirty minute examinations, each worth 50% of the marks available
  • The A level is assessed by three two hour examinations, each worth 33.3% of the marks available

Students will need to have a minimum of four GCSEs or equivalent.
