Oxford Open Learning has been delivering top quality distance learning courses for the last 22 years.
Distance learning courses used to be called correspondence courses because the primary (or only) means of communication was letters in the post, but these days ‘distance learning courses’ covers a number of different modes of home study, personalised learning and communication at a distance – the telephone, e-mail, e-learning sites, various forms of audio and video technology, etc.
Although technology is advancing all the time, Oxford Open Learning retains the philosophy that the telephone is a wonderful tool for communication between students and tutors and we ensure that our tutors are in regular contact with their students at every stage of their studies. Five minutes spent discussing a topic on the telephone tends to lead to more positive outcomes, both in terms of understanding and motivation, than five minutes spent tapping away at an e-mail. We believe that no other distance learning course provider offers the same quality and quantity of telephone support and it is the reason why such a high proportion of our home study students complete their courses and pass their exams.
Although we offer a wide range of distance learning home study courses, our particular specialism is in “academic” qualifications, notably GCSE and A-level. If you would like to learn more about the courses we offer, please click on the links below:
Many people who aspire to a new career need the flexibility of distance learning so they can pass the exams required. Teaching, Nursing and Policing are all examples of careers which require a minimum level of GCSEs.
IGCSE is widely recognized by higher education institutions and employers around the world. It is equivalent, grade for grade, to GCSE. IGCSEs involve 100% assessment by examination (i.e. no coursework).
Oxford Open Learning offers a wide range of A level courses. These are still the gold standard of the English examination system. They are highly rated by employers and are required for most university degree courses.
If you haven’t studied for a while, it’s a great idea to refresh your study skills. Whether you need to brush up on your basic English and Maths or develop new study skills, the courses in this section can set you on track.
Our list of online courses is expanding ... if your preference is to study for GCSEs and IGCSEs online, and can access our courses on your laptop, notebook or phone, then check out what's new at Oxford Online Learning.
