Law GCSE – a brief introduction
Each lesson of the GCSE Law course begins with a set of clearly stated objectives and an explanation of its place in the overall programme of study.
Effective learning is encouraged through frequent activities and self-assessment questions. There are seven tutor-marked assignments. No previous knowledge of the subject is assumed or required.
Law GCSE subject content
The Oxford Open Learning GCSE Law course covers the entire syllabus in eight modules and 31 lessons. Areas covered include the nature, evolution, making, and administration of the law, and contract, tort, criminal, family, and employment law.
The AQA specification is divided into two units:
- Unit 1 The English Legal System (41601)
- Unit 2 The Law in Action (41602)
Each unit is examined separately in a written exam paper of 1 hour 30 minutes. Each exam is worth 50%. The course follows a similar structure:

- Module A: Introduction to Law
- Module B: Courts and Processes
- Module C: People in the Law
- Module D: Sources of English Law
Unit Two: The Law in Action
- Module E: The Law of Tort
- Module F: Criminal Law
- Module G: Family Law
- Module H: Rights and Responsibilities
The Law GCSE Syllabus
Our Law GCSE course prepares students for AQA GCSE Law syllabus 4160, for exams in 2017 and later years.
The last exams for students taking the current qualification will be in the June 2018 series and there will be no further re-sit opportunity.
Coursework and Controlled Assessment are not required for Law GCSE. Assessment is by written examination only.
