Author Recruitment

Oxford Open Learning is always on the lookout for experienced specialist tutors and authors.   Many Oxford Open Learning tutors become authors in due course. Authors are required to write new courses or, more often, to revise and update existing courses. Specifications change regularly and it is necessary to adapt existing materials for new purposes. In addition, Oxford Open Learning has a policy of continuous improvement for all courses. Authors must be subject specialists with a number of years experience of teaching their subject. Some experience as a published writer is also required and familiarity with the latest specifications is expected.   Word-processing and page-layout skills are also an asset. Experience in developing courses for an online environment (e.g. Moodle) is similarly valuable. Authors are employed on a part-time, freelance basis to undertake specific commissions for a set fee. The fee is negotiated between the author and Oxford Open Learning’s editorial department. Oxford Open Learning retains the copyright on all the developed materials. Oxford Open Learning welcomes expressions of interest from specialist authors in all the academic subjects it currently offers.  In particular, there are writing opportunities within the following subject specialism:

  • Chemistry A-level

Less urgently, we are looking for specialists in the following subjects:

  • Computer Science – the Edexcel IGCSE specification
  • Religious Studies (AQA GCSE)
  • Accounting (A-level)
  • Latin

Expressions of interest should be sent, in the first instance, to Dr Nicholas Smith, Commissioning Editor, OOL, nick@ool.co.uk.
