Oxford Open Learning is always looking for suitable tutors in a number of subjects.
If you are interested in tutoring for us if a post becomes available, please send your CV to Amanda Blunden at the email address below. You will need to be qualified to PGCE / B.Ed level to tutor our students and have several years’ relevant classroom experience. You must have good internet access.
Who Are Our Students?
Our students are either adult learners, some of whom under-achieved in school and now wish to rectify that, and some who, whilst having a generally good academic background, now need a specific qualification to make progress in their career; or home schooled children who are studying independently for a number of reasons.
How Does Tutoring With Oxford Open Learning Work?
We provide the student with written course materials that have been developed to cover a particular syllabus or specification. All of our course materials have regular activities and self-assessment tests. Courses also include tutor-marked assignments (TMAs) which students will send to you for marking. Once you have marked an assignment, you return it to Oxford Open Learning and we will send the student a set of specimen answers together with their marked assignment.
Some of our courses include coursework (Non-Examination Assessment) which you will be expected to authenticate and assess.
Our system is for supported self-study and the student is expected to self-motivate and to make contact with their tutor if they have a query or problem. Our home schooled students have more frequent contact with their tutors, all by telephone and email.
How Are Tutors Paid?
Broadly speaking, we pay our tutors based on the assignments they mark and the contact (telephone or e-mail) they make. For full details of the system and how we pay our tutors, please contact Amanda Blunden on 01865 304 833.
Please note that our tutors are all self-employed, and the contract is for services provided by the tutor to Oxford Open Learning.
