Sociology A level – a brief introduction

This brand new Sociology A level course has been written to the AQA specification 7192. This course will be examined for the first time in Summer 2017. If you are interested in taking your examination before this, please have a look at our existing Sociology A level for last examination in Summer 2016. The Sociology course has been designed so that students can follow two core themes through their study. The themes are

socialisation, culture and identity
social differentiation, power and stratification

These themes are not discrete topics but will be interpreted through the study of the modules below.

AS Level Sociology Topics

  • Methods in Context
  • Theory and Methods
  • Families and Households

A level Sociology Topics

  • Crime and Deviance
  • Theory and Methods
  • Beliefs in Society

The course is written for the AQA Sociology AS/A level specification 7191/7192.


  • The AS is assessed by two one hour thirty minute examinations, each worth 50% of the marks available
  • The A level is assesses by three two hour examinations, each worth 33.3% of the marks available

Students will need to have a minimum of four GCSEs or equivalent.
