IGCSE Chemistry

Syllabus

Oxford Open Learning’s Chemistry IGCSE course is designed to prepare students for the Edexcel IGCSE in Chemistry (4CH0) for  examination in June 2012 or later years.

Course Structure

The OOL IGCSE Chemistry course is designed to follow the structure of the Edexcel 4CH0 specification and is divided into six modules, as follows:

  • Module 1:    Principles of Chemistry
  • Module 2:    Chemistry of the Elements
  • Module 3:    Organic Chemistry
  • Module 4:    Physical Chemistry
  • Module 5:    Chemistry in Society
  • Module 6:    Investigative Skills

The course enables students to develop a range of scientific skills as they work with diagrams, graphs, statistics, photographic images and online media.

Students should have internet access to carry out some of the research and lesson activities.  To find out more about the course read the Course Introduction.

Assessment

Assessment is by written examination. Paper 1 lasts two hours and is worth two-thirds of the marks. Paper 2 lasts one hour and is worth one third of the marks. There is no coursework and no practical examination.
