Distance Learning Human Physiology and Health GCSE - The Course
Each lesson of the Human Human Physiology and Health GCSE course begins with a set of clearly stated objectives and an explanation of its place in the overall programme of study. Effective learning is encouraged through frequent activities and self-assessment questions, and there are a large number of simply drawn and easy-to-copy illustrations. There are 9 Tutor-marked Assignments (TMAs). No previous study of human biology is required.
Key Topics Covered
The course is divided into 22 lessons covering four main topic areas:
- Module 1 – Science Skills
- Module 2 – Relations between man, other organisms and the environment
- Module 3 – Organisation and maintenance of the individual
- Module 4 - Reproduction, growth and development
Practical issues of health and fitness are also covered in some detail.
The Syllabus
This course prepares students for AQA GCSE Human Physiology and Health syllabus 3417, for exams in 2009 and 2010. This syllabus will be examined for the last time in 2010 and replace by a similar syllabus 4417. Assessment is by one written paper (80%) and coursework (20%).
Practical Skills/Coursework
Human Physiology and Health GCSE students are required to show some familiarity with a number of basic experiments. These experiments can be carried out by distance learners in the home. Guidance is given in the course pack.
