From June 2011 all standard GCSE History Courses require students to carry out Controlled Assessment rather than coursework. Controlled Assessment essentially means that students will need to be observed by the teacher carrying out their coursework tasks. New History GCSE courses have been designed so that students carry out group research over a prolonged period. This means that Adult Learners are effectively barred from History GCSE courses. Many colleges are not even running History GCSE evening classes.
The new History IGCSE is a great alternative to a History GCSE Course. The I stands for International. These qualifications are run by the Edexcel examination board, one of the most respected examining boards in the UK and the rest of the world.
Our old History GCSE Course covered British social and economic History from 1750 to 1950 and covered topics on Population, Transport, The emancipation of women, Mass society, Trade unions and Liberal reform. All this gave an insight into how Britain got to be the way it is today. Our new History course covers modern world history and as such includes some of the most dynamic changes of our times such as Germany from 1918 to 1945, USA 1929 – 45, India 1919 – 1947 and Africa from 1945 – 2000. Full details of our new History Course can be found here.
The new Oxford Open Learning IGCSE History course is designed to match the Edexcel 4HI0 specification, for first examination in June 2011.
Our new History IGCSE Course does not require coursework.
