Human Biology GCSE - The Course
Each lesson of the Human Biology GCSE course begins with a set of clearly stated objectives and an explanation of its place in the overall programme of study. Effective learning is encouraged through frequent activities and self-assessment questions, and there are a large number of simply drawn and easy-to-copy illustrations. There are seven tutor-marked assignments and a practice exam paper. No previous study of the subject is required.
Key Topics Covered
The course is divided into nine modules:
- cell activity
- humans as organisms
- green plants as organisms
- variation, inheritance and evolution
- living things in their environment
- the heart, health and fitness
- movement, health and fitness
- human reproduction and development
- the making of modern humans
The first five are "core" content" and the last four are "additional" content.
The Syllabus
This course prepares students for AQA GCSE Science: Biology (Human) specification 3415, for exams in 2005 and later years. Assessment is by one written paper (80%) and coursework (20%).
Practical Skills/Coursework
Human Biology GCSE students are required to show some familiarity with a number of basic experiments. Access to laboratory facilities is also necessary for exam success. Full guidance is given in the course pack.
