The Course
The Institute of Administrative Management's International Diploma course is internationally recognised as among the most comprehensive management qualifications. It has been designed specifically for those in an administrative or supervisory role who wish to further develop their skills and knowledge. The International Diploma is a practical, skills - based course which encourages you to focus on applying the skills and knowledge you gain on the course in your current work situation.

Aims of the course
The Diploma in Administrative Management contains a balance of three professional education themes:
- Management of People.
- General Management and Administration principles and practice
- Management of Information
So the Diploma programme continues to reflect the Institute’s Mission Statement:
To promote best practice in the management of information through people
How long will the course take?
Most students take twelve months to complete the course although it is possible to complete the course more rapidly if you are able to devote more time to your study. As a rough guide we would recommend 140 hours study per unit.
What prior qualifications do I need?
- try criteria onto the Diploma include:
- BTEC or SQA (formerly SCOTVEC) National Award
- NEBS Management Certificate*
- NVQ Level 3 - Administration or Management*
- 4 GCSEs (A-C Grade) plus 1 A'Level (one of which must be English) or non-UK recognised equivalent (contact IAM for further guidance)
- three years relevant work experience in an administrative function.
What are the benefits of the qualification?
The award is made by the Institute of Administrative Management, a 90 year old professional institute dedicated to the promotion of the science of Administrative Management, with members across the globe, at all levels of management and in all commercial sectors including business, manufacturing, government, education and training.
Holders of the Diploma are awarded Associate Membership of the Institute and are entitled to use the post nominal letters of AInstAM (Dip) and the professional designation of Incorporated Administrator.
Candidates who complete the International Diploma can proceed to the International Advanced Diploma in the same subject or alternatively may be accepted to proceed to the second year of a relevant university degree programme.
Structure of the Course
There are five units on the Diploma Programme. The first four units cover the various aspects of administrative management. The fifth is a case study.

Unit 5: Case Study
Case Study
The Case Study paper is designed to test knowledge and application of that knowledge to a real life situation. It is designed to encourage you to draw on the skills and knowledge you have gained throughout the course. The Case Study scenario will be provided in advance but the four compulsory questions will be unseen. The scenario will be issued four to six weeks in advance of the relevant examination.
The paper will be of three hours duration.
Alternatively you may submit a Work Project Report subject to the established IAM regulations.
Examinations
The examinations are held in June and December each year at registered IAM centres. It is your responsibility to make arrangements for your examination but our Exams Office will help you with the details. A list of registered IAM centres can be obtained from the IAM website: www.instam.org Alternatively arrangements can be made for you to sit your examinations at your place of work.
Special Requirements
Students are required to be members of the Institute whilst studying for the Diploma. Oxford Open Learning will send you an IAM application form on enrollment. You are expected to join the Institute at least four months prior to the first examination date.
