The Course

The International Advanced Diploma is a new qualification aimed at further developing the skills and knowledge of practicing Administrative Managers. The International Advanced Diploma builds on the skills and knowledge gained in the International Diploma.


What Qualification will I Achieve?

Students who pass the examinations are awarded the International Advanced Diploma in Administrative Management from the Institute of Adminstrative Management.
The Advanced Diploma has been specified as a Level 5 qualification as part of the National Qualifications framework. This means that it is considered to be at Degree level (equivalent to the second year of an honours programme). The Advanced Diploma also forms the final part of the Institute’s professional examination.

How Long will the Course Take?

Most students take twelve months to complete the course although it is possible to complete the course more rapidly if you are able to devote more time to your study. As a rough guide we would recommend 140 hours study per unit.

The award is made by the prestgious Institute of Administrative Management, a 90 year old professional institute dedicated to the promotion of the science of Administrative Management, with members across the globe, at all levels of management and in all commercial sectors including business, manufacturing, government, education and training.

Holders of the Advanced Diploma are awarded Corporate Membership of the Institute and are entitled to use the post nominal letters of MinstAM (Adv. Dip) and the professional designation of Incorporated Administrative Manager.

Case Study

The Case Study paper is designed to test knowledge and application of that knowledge to a real life situation. It is designed to encourage students to draw on the skills and knowledge they have gained throughout the course. The Case Study scenario will be provided in advance but the four compulsory questions will be unseen. The scenario will be issued four to six weeks in advance of the relevant examination. The paper will be of three hours duration. Alternatively students may submit a Work Project Report subject to the established IAM regulations.

Examinations

IAM set external examinations for each of the four units and the Case Study. The first four units are examined by a three hour closed book examination. The papers will comprise of a choice of four questions from eight, designed to assess the depth and breadth of the student’s knowledge of how administrative systems are applied and managed throughout the organisation. The papers will be divided into four sections and students will be required to answer one question from each section.
 The examinations are held in June and December each year at registered IAM centres.  It is the responsibility of the student to arrange the examination but our Exams Office will help you with the details.  A list of registered IAM centres can be obtained from the IAM website: www.instam.org Alternatively arrangements can be made for you to sit your examinations at your place of work.

Special Requirements

Students are required to be members of the Institute whilst studying for the Diploma.  Oxford Open Learning will send you an IAM application form on enrollment. Students are expected to join the Institute at least 4 months prior to the first examination date.
